Consecration of an Orthodox Cemetery

On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross we erected a Cross in our cemetery at Sandon.
On Sunday, within the After-Feast, we consecrated the Cross and cemetery to be the final resting place for the bodies of the congregation of St. Michael's.

The piece of land was kindly made available for us to purchase by Lord Harrowby.

The Cross was constructed and set up by Paul Tudor, an excellent carpenter from Shrewsbury.

We planted daffodil bulbs around the Cross to symbolise resurrection to new life through the Cross and Resurrection of our Lord and God and Saviour Jesus Christ.

St Michael’s Day

St. Michael's Day this year is in a Wednesday (8th November), so Great Vespers on Tuesday 7th at 6.30pm and Divine Liturgy on Wednesday at 10.30am. We shall have a celebration meal on Saturday 11th November at 7.30pm until around 9pm at the Bull's Head at Mayne Street, Hanford ST4 8EN.

Please book well in advance with a £5 deposit.

We will be using their ground floor function room with disabled access and its own bar .

Menus will be available soon in the kitchen at church.

HANDY HINTS

Hands

To remove vegetable stains from your hands rub them with a mixture of lemon juice and sugar and wash in warm soapy water.

Clothes

To remove tar or oil from clothes use eucalyptus oil.

Household

Marks made by sticky labels on glass or china can be removed with nail varnish remover, cooking oil or white spirit.

Lemon juice mixed with Brasso not only makes brasses brighter but also delays the tarnishing process.

Clean silver by soaking in coca cola.

Bluebell and Wonder

Hello children
,
Wonder mouse here with a few more stories to share with you all. My days have been very busy. When I visited your Church with Bluebell we found a grape on the floor and together we rolled it home. My mummy said if we would go and gather a blackcurrant she would make a pie we could all share.

Q: Do you share? What did you share and whom did you share it with?

As we were looking in the hedgerow our friend Twitch came to join us. He is a squirrel. He got his name because his tail always twitches. He asked if we would like to play a game called ‘find the acorn’. It was quite funny, as we knew he could not remember where he had put them.

My mummy’s name is Angel.

Q: In your Church you have pictures of angels on the doors of the screen. Can you tell me how they are different to the other Icon paintings?

Bluebell could hear music in your Church but saw no organ. She saw a group of people singing.

Q: Can you help Bluebell and explain what the name is for the group of singers?

Mummy is calling for us so we must go. The smell of her cooking is always so tempting.
